The Evolution of Community Net
Community Nets, focused upon the growth and development of communications within their local communities, are beginning to take shape across the globe.
Our first Community Net opened in Solano County, California in 1994, to provide local government, education, business, and individuals a place to collectively build resources for the entire community. Today, we have a strong mixture of schools, government agencies, business interests, and active individuals participating in and benfiting from Community Net in ways never imagined before.
Our Community Net model continues to expand, and now includes communities in Northern California, Southern California, and Japan, all driven by the principle that pooled resources increase in value, and local resources are easier to pool than those remote from each other.
This is an important aspect of this new Digital World - although distance is made less relevant, proximity to resources becomes more important...
To enhance this, we've recently opened our new facility in Suisun, California, which provides a physical place for the Members of Community Net to meet, train, develop, and work hand-in-hand with us and the rest of their community in creating projects, products, and services.
We believe our Community Nets help others extend these technologies, privately, within the local community, and into the global community as a whole. By integrating connectivity services, tools, and technologies, within the local Community Net membership, we're building a knowledge and experience base that continually extends the definition of the "Internet."
On behalf of the staff of Digital America, our members, and the communities we participate in, I invite you to participate, and contribute, to the growth and development of your local Community Net.
We'll continue to provide and apply the technologies for realizing this
dream. I invite you to realize yours, in Community Net, by Digital
America...
